OVERVIEW OF BLACK RAIN ORDNANCE MUZZLE DEVICES

Choosing a muzzle device can can be confusing with so many options. Here's an overview of the muzzle devices Black Rain Ordnance offers and reasons why you might choose each one.

FLASH SUPPRESSORS:

A flash suppressor also known as a flash hider, flash guard, or flash eliminator is a device that reduces the visible signature of a weapon firing by cooling or dispersing the burning gases that exit the muzzle, a phenomenon typical of carbine-length weapons. Its primary intent is to reduce the chances that the shooter will be blinded in low-light shooting conditions.  Contrary to popular belief, it is only a minor secondary benefit if a flash suppressor reduces the intensity of the flash visible to the enemy.

Black Rain Ordnance Offers three flash suppressor options. The SPEC15 A2 Birdcage (standard on SPEC15 Series Rifles), The Milled Flash Suppressor (often called the "pineapple" style flash suppressor), and the 2 toned SLM Flash Suppressor turned down from the Milled Flash Suppressor.

  • SPEC15 A2 (5.56 or .308): $8.99
  • MILLED FLASH SUPPRESSOR (5.56 or .308): $109.00
  • SLM FLASH SUPPRESSOR (5.56 or .308): $139.00

COMPENSATORS:

Also called muzzle brakes, these devices redirect propellant gases to counter recoil and unwanted rising of the barrel during rapid fire making them ideal devices for competitive shooters who need to put rounds on target quickly. Shooting one of these in a side by side comparison with a flash hider really gives you an idea of how well these devices work. You'll find a noticeable reduction in muzzle rise. Operating them on an SBR or Pistol, however, will cause your weapon to seem louder due to the way the blast is distributed and the amount of gas that isn't burned up between the chamber and the muzzle.

Black Rain Ordnance offers two compensator options for 5.56 and .308 rifles.

  • ROUND COMPETITION COMPENSATOR: 5.56-$89.00 .308-$169.00
  • HEXAGONAL COMPETITION COMPENSATOR: 5.56-$139.00 .308-$169.00

MUZZLE FLASH REGULATOR:

Defined as a flash suppressor by the ATF, these devices really belong in a category all their own. The BRO Muzzle Flash Regulator or MFR directs the blast from your shot directly forward. This is helpful on short barrel rifles and pistols when shooting in close quarters with others such as a booth at a gun range or in a close quarter battle scenario. Another benefit of this device is that the increased back pressure helps the weapon cycle, a common issue with short barrel weapons. While the device does not nor is intended reduce the sound signature, by directing the blast forward it helps save the operators ears especially compared to a compensator on an SBR or pistol.

  • BRO-MFR (5.56 or .308): $149.00
